Avira uses such little resources for a AV, you won't even notice it. I game with it running in the background all the time.

Not sure if this has been mentioned. Those wanting to disable the nag screen, can still do it, and escape it updating avnotify to require the reboot. I read on another forum via Google search (sorry can't remember the source) but basically you just have to deny one thing in the permissions and all will still be good. I did this on multiple computers, and so far so good.
Basically, do the same as usual, go to the security tab, then click "Advance." Next, click "Edit" on the new dialogue that opened up. Then for each user, "Administrators, Users, and System," click "Edit," then in the permissions, only deny "Traverse folder / execute file". That should do it. It's been working for me on a clean install of Vista. Milage may vary, good luck!

I have used all of the big three free AVs but finally switched to Avast. The newest versions of AVG and Avira caused freeze-up problems in my 3 year old celeron XP. The newer version of Avast remained stable, I was holding my breath.

Avast and Avira are both excellent free AV's.
