I have tried a various antivirus programs (avast, avg, norton, kaspersky, panda..) and made several tests, i also made a test with a web page that had a virus and only AVIRA gave me an alert..

using it for more than a year, i found that AVIRA was the most effective, not a resource hog and really good detection/protection!!

I haven't try Eset NOD32, is it better and more eficient than AVIRA??
i see it's well rated.. (i don't care to pay for it)

This is a difficult question, at least for me it is. I am a firm believer in NOD32, however Avira has really impressed me to say the least. I made the switch permanent on all my machines 2 months ago and find it to be even lighter on resources than NOD32. It also picked up some test malware I ran on an XP Virtual Machine, that NOD32 didnt. I say go with the Avira. I'm about to buy licenses and go pro for all my machines to help support them even tho the free version works great.

avira alllllll the way nod has let me down to many times...but imo i prefer kaspersky 2009 over both of them personally and i own lic to all three and have used them all extensively to test.. just my 2 cents

avira still has a few update issues where it will lock up during a update or may start to update and go on forever but its rare. also a few known firewall issues but nothing major. imo nod version 3 had way to many issues for me everything from 100% cpu usage to crashing to it turning itself off on occasion etc... imo it just was not what i expected from eset

This is true and one of the main reasons I stuck with NOD32 ver 2 up until the big Avira switch of 08. :)

It helps to know that, because i though NOD32 could be better than AVIRA, but know that you mention i´ll stick with AVIRA, the free version is awesome i just wished that it would have less popup windows with advertisement. Glad to hear you´re also switching to AVIRA.

There are ways to block the popup window, just search google. The best way, however, is to support the company and purchase the product when you're financially able to. :)

When Avira free is as good as it is, I see no reason to buy any anti-virus.
