Their scores has always been perfect, very reliable and consistent, what turns me off is the amount of bloatware they offer, even if you opt for the Antivirus only, you get a software updater, file shredded, performance optimizer, everything under the sun.

I prefer a simple lean and clean AV only.

Using F-Secure Antivirus for now since ESET has been buggy lately. It has nothing, just a file scanner, nothing else, no toolbars, no HTTP scanning to slow down my internet, nada!

I just use Windows Defender. It can slow down installation of programs but it's free and seem to always have good detection rates.

Windows Defender has come a long way. It has superb detection rates unlike the days of Windows 7 where you would rather use no AV than use Windows Defender. My only gripe with it as you mentioned is I *feel* a huge performance impact especially when installing big programs like Adobe Suite, Nero Platinum Suite, etc. It's like I'm on a different laptop but otherwise, as you mentioned for a free solution that comes out of the box it's great for what it offers. Would I ever use it? not with its current performance impact unless that changes, see the latest Performance impact score:

In this blog post I like to take up a tiresome topic. It is about the performance and stability problems caused by virus scanners on Windows 10 clients as well as on server environments. What is the cause and what can I do?
