You can disable ESET RTP module whilst running benchmarks though!
It was their on-demand folder scanning which wrecked havoc for me as well, now they fixed it.
Actually, WD is paid first party AV and they actually make it to perform worse to allow 3rd party AV to have an edge.

@Phoenix What are your thoughts on this article? Funny how ESET NOD32 isn't even here although I've been running it for quite a while now without any problems on your recommendation!

ESET has chosen not to participate with that biased testing anymore. They are paid shills. Just look at the Performance category for example, in the table, click on the Performance tab to sort them by performance level, heck, almost 50% of them get 6 out of 6 in terms of performance. Riiiiiiiiiight! That's all BS I've tested them all, some are indeed light but some are heavy as a brick. And the ones that they claim are light, take for example BitDefender, it is full of bloatware, password manager, software updater, file shredder, you name it.

So ESET remains one of the lightest, most secure (haven't gotten a virus since using it more than 10 years), has a very powerful HTTP scanner even in the AntiVirus only so no need to go for the Internet Security, and best of all is just a plain and simple AV with no fluff.
