The FiiO BTR5 (BTR3) has a competitor now in the Shanling UP4 (UP2), and both the new models have the same active audio components and block design - probably not exact copies, but who knows. The UP4 is cheaper than the BTR5 due to the UP4 not having a screen - just an RGB led to indicate feedback to settings changes.

It is very handy to have the BTR5 with a laptop / smartphone / tablet for both DAC / wired IEM's or wired headphones up to 300 ohm, which gives much better audio quality with high bitrate sources.

The main selling point of the BTR5 / UP4 is the Bluetooth receiver function with aptX, aptX HD, aptX LL, AAC, LDAC and more, and it's great to be able to walk around with the BTR5 + IEM pseudo "wireless" - not wired to a fixed laptop / computer / TV / etc.

Hifi Go / Amazon have the Shanling UP4 at it's MSRP:

The Fiio BTR5 has stabilized at $129 on both Hifigo and Amazon:

Zeos is a bit of an eclectic reviewer, but he covers the stuff fairly and is mildly entertaining... ;)

Shanling UP4 _(Z Reviews)_ It is UP4 anything... Get it?!

"You buy this over the BTR5 if you want more power out of tiny BT adapter and aren't using balanced. Supposedly an app is in development.

    3.5 - Single Ended
    UP4 - 91mW@32Ω (Boost Mode)
The yellow ZEO couldn't find... Cause he was only plugged in balanced and didn't test single ended.
    BTR5 - 80mW@32Ω
    ES100 - 35mW@32Ω

    2.5 - Balanced
    UP4 - 160mW@32Ω
    BTR5 - 220mW@32Ω
    ES100 - 100mW@32Ω"

Both of those are really interesting actually. I generally would go for which looks better since I trust both will sound good, but if I had to pick just one, I have good trust in FiiO given their track record.

Also, a little more controversional review on a Chifi IEM, the KB Ear F1, this is my second video of them, they are a new revision, and it has a lot of complaints about them sadly, because their naming and release schedule / model makes no sense whatsoever... :)
