I may look at those tube amps after I figure out what I'm doing long term in life. They just don't look very friendly for air travel lol.

I hope it works out well though

Does anyone know what exactly makes a good audio card? What specific properties of the design/ materials? I'm just confused how my laptops sound so different from each other! Same price!

Not an expert but I think these factors are relevant: High SNR, codec support to name a couple.

    Sound alone.

You can't guess how it will sound based on literally anything.

Had DACs / AMPs that measure well, or that have good specs but soiunded bad, and the other way around as well.

Specifically, companies who make something that sounds as you personally want. We are very subjective when it comes to sound, so it is really hard to tell what you want without you telling us some details, but if you give me smoe info, I may be able to tell what you'd like, from my experience with other stuff.

Just a FYI, I just bought a Creative G6 for my laptop, to pair up with my Sennheiser HD580 Precision / Sony MDR-SA5000 headphones, and since you are looking at the HD6XX, I wanted to let you know it can power those headphones. On high gain, I max out the HD580 (300 Ohm) at about 60% on the volume control. Many Head-Fi'ers also use this as a surround virtualizer for HTRF embedding to Line-Out/Optical Out to their higher end gear. The unit sports a Cirrus Logic CM43131 DAC, and the Xamp discrete bi-amp. I have a more detailed write up here:
