I have the UX501VW, does anyone know how to minimize the static noise heard when scrolling pages? There's also a noise that faintly sounds like a ticking clock. (I'm actually surprised how "noisy" this computer is when in a quiet room at night...) Also, can anyone list any tweaks they know to software to get the most out of the computer and its hardware? Thanks.

Unfortunately that static noise is inherent to most cpus of the i7 6xxx generation. When I read about it and experienced it myself after buying the ux501vw I returned it and exchanged for the ux501jw model.

As to software to get the most out of your laptop, I strongly advise to download throttlestop.

Hello I own a ux501J model Asus. Does anyone have the problem with the charger plug? i mean it is very fregiale and mine faliured and burned my mainboard. When i took it to the service, guys told me it was my fault and refused to change it under warranty. And it was it for me with Asus.

Anyway, i took the laptop to a specialist for mainboards. He located the problem, it was chip IT8585VG FXO. he changed it but now cooling fan wouldn't stop. it is on all the time! He told me there should be a special programming on the chip to control the cooling fan. dont know if it is true.

Just wondering if anyone had the same problem.

    Thank you.

It happens with the -> arrow and "0" from NumKeypad... had to press a bit hard

I heard that too, when computer it's almost idle it doesnt emit that static noice, but I heard it most of time, it bothers me specialy when I hearing music. I'm a bit dissapoint about this because I spend $1500 in a premium laptop.

    FYI,
About the M.2 port, my UX501VW-FW264T, that comes with 1TB mecanic hard drive and 12 GB RAM (8+4) supports both SATA and NVME, I start using a WD SSD Green Drive 240 GB and then I change it for Samsung NVME SM951 Pro PCIe 3X 512GB MZVPV512HDGL working without any problem with 2500/2200 MB/sec (read/write)

    Hey Guys,

I'd appreciate any insight from users of ASUS UX501VW with a matte, FHD display - I'm looking for a universal, well built, 15 inch laptop that's acceptable for use with Photoshop.

I've found many reviews of the 4K variant (many claims of ~90% sRGB coverage, no mention of mustard yellow...) but I can't seem to find any reviews or tests of the FHD display.

I seem to have found the last unit available in my market for about 1300 Euro and I'm hesitant to pull the trigger if the screen turns out sub par and I could have gone with a cheaper alternative.

    Thanks in advance!

I have the ux501jw with a matte fhd display. I think there are reviews about it, but I don't remember where. Anyway, colors are appropriate, better than any HP, Toshiba, Sony laptop I've seen until about 1000 euros. Colors seen accurate enough and it's certainly more than acceptable when I do texture stuff in Photoshop CS6.

Thanks Feregorn but there's been a couple of changes between ux501jw and ux501vw - I doubt they're still using the same screens.

Asked Asus directly basing on the model's S/N. They told me that the screen is and EDP EWV screen, which supposedly is Asus' alternative to IPS. No info on color coverage. Opinions on EWV vs IPS vary drastically online :(

Edit: got more info from Asus - it's Samsung's PLS screen with 72% sRGB coverage - http://www.panelook.com/LTN156HL01_Samsung_15.6_LCM_overview_24053.html

Also another user in this thread reported PWM flicker issues on that screen and replaced their's with an LG panel.

    Too bad :(

Hello, I did end up buying that 16gb memory stick, but unfortunately it does not seem to work :(
I see the total ram in bios (20gb) but in Windows, Memtest etc its only 4gb ram available.
All though, memtest and CPU-Z can see the 16GB stick.

Anyone have any ideas? I have latest bios which is BIOS 211 from 10/28/2015, for model N501JW
