How's the battery life after a fresh install? Using the stock install the Windows battery estimate would estimate 8 hour at full charge. After my fresh install, the estimate is only 4 hours. I've already installed the Asus Power4Gear and changed it to Battery Saver.

Can someone let me know if I need to do anything differently if I've upgraded to BIOS 219?

No, not that i know. I just installed it "after" a bios update to 219. I came from 206 and had serious problems with the usb 3.0 ports.
After the update, the installation went perfect. I made sure i had a backup of the important files i had and deleted all the system partitions aswell. (Don't forget to make the repair dvd using the asus tool!)

Thanks to this great post, I was able to install Windows 7 fresh on my UX31A. I also deleted the recovery partition in order to free up space. Now I'm going to sell my UX31A, is there any way to restore the recovery partition? Or at least get it on DVD?

If you are still looking for the Restore DVD (2 of them) for Windows 7 Home (as supplied by ASUS on a fresh UX31A) created by the ASUS AI Recovery Program (as installed on a fresh UX31A).
I can surely post to you the 2 DVDs which you can use (with the help of an external DVD reader/writer) to recreate your SSD Hard disk with all the partitions by booting from the first DVD and following the very easy instructions.
    Or
If you prefer I can send to you the image file of each of the 2 DVDs and you can crate a bootable usb from DVD 1 of 2 to recreate a fresh UX31a with all its original partitions and programs.

Let me know and I will try and send you what you want. You can contact me by PM (Private message if you do not want our conversations to be public.).

Waiting for your response. Regards from Sunny Athens - Greece.

Hi godlyatheist - Did you ever find a solution to this problem? I followed the steps to upgrade my zenbook ux31a to windows 8.1 and my estimated battery life has decreased dramatically. Around 3-4 hours now from the 6-7 i had when i was on windows 7.

Hi, do you still have the ASUS recovery disk for UX31A / win 7 home premium?
If yes could you please share the ISO of the disk somehow?

Hey guys, er, stuck on Step 1 I get this error from the Microsoft site when I try to download the stock Win 7 image after entering my product key:

"The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer. Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

HI all. I want to create a bootable usb for my ux31a. With my own Windows ISO. How to proceed?

I suspect the tool in the OP only lets ypu download a ISO straight from Microsoft to crete a boot thumbdrive?
