The GS63VR is the superior machine, with few drawbacks like the super slow 5400RPM HDD. But on the bright side, it's lighter, got a sleeker design, great build quality, and cools well (gets loud and high pitched due to small fans).

Msi gs series are premium laptops while asus' gl series are supposed to be cheaper laptops.

Gl502 is mostly plastic while gs63 is mostly made out of alloys

The fans are only loud when gaming on a massive load, but what's important is the laptop remains cool.

If you want a quiet machine with a faster HDD, you have to look at thicker options. The GT62VR 6RD (or 7RD) is about the best you can get for less than 1500.

I would just make sure to avoid the Best Buy -001 version of the GS63VR. Some cases it ships with a mediocre IPS panel and some cases it ships with a low quality TN panel. The 'normal' GS63VR models use a rather nice type of 1080p display.

I'd avoid the GS63VR as it has insane DPC latency issues, unless you disable wifi, which basically makes it impossible to do anything.
