Hey there, whilst looking at laptops I have these aims in mind:
-run AAA games for 2-3 years without too much problem
-longevity - must have a sufficient cooling system

I'm currently looking at GTX 1070 8GB versions of these laptops, would it be worth upgrading to the 1080 versions for the extra cost?
I've heard that about the r4 17, there's a bit of a lottery when it comes to cooling abilities, same can be said for the asus. Anybody have any experiences with either of these laptops?
In terms of other suggestions, I'm in the price range of $2300-2800.

The Alienware is by far the better the choice.

Those issues have mostly been resolved and addressed. There are still occasionally affected units but those are rare.

    Hi,

You have plenty of options: search results . You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button. You can also click on the laptops for more information. (EU/US) stands for Europe/USA only model.

The Alienware is a top pick , but the Clevo will give you better value for money. With the Alienware I kind of agree with the lottery thing. I've been on this forum long enough to know that usually they are rock solid, but never get the early batches, those always have lots of problems. I myself owned an Alienware and sold it for parts after 2 years or so. One thing Alienware has better than everyone else is their chassis , those things are like tanks.

Wouldn't you say that buying it as of june/july 2017 would classify as outside of the early batch?

Certainly. The early batches were the Skylake models.
