Sata3. But make sure the dock is a pass-through module, without it's own controller hardware :) And take a look in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/709678-n56vz-fails-sleep-shutdown.html
You need to find the intel update separately. Just find the intel hd 4000 update for a hm76 panther point mainboard on the intel site ..

    ..maybe [URL="http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22375&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09[/URL].

And find the 650m driver on nvidia.com. Once you install one of the relatively newer packages, you get prompted once in a while when a new non-beta driver turns up. It's not complicated. You don't really need to, though -- the current unified nvidia driver + the latest intel hd 4000 driver are "mature" in a way I haven't seen in a long while for any hardware.. so. You would probably be safe if you installed the updates and disabled the automatic updates :) (...not that you can do that for Windows, obviously).

I believe that link is for 32 bit, you may want to try this instead.

Also wanted to thank nipsen especially, and everyone else who contributes to the "kb" about the N56 and its variants here.

Hey guys, I own an N56VZ and I really should have taken your advice on doing a fresh install of windows before I did anything.

I don't know whether it's the bloatware or some virus but my Memory Usage has gone haywire. It keeps increasing slowly even if I'm just browsing the net or watching a movie up until the PC cannot handle it anymore (around 7.85GB in use out of 8) and forces me to restart. I got a free copy of Trend Micro anti virus but it has failed to detect any virus issues. I'm assuming it's because that the software is not reliable :p This has become really annoying and I've decided to format and reinstall windows again.

Unfortunately, I'm really new when it comes to this. I bought this with genuine Win7 64bit installed. How do I go about doing this? I've already made backup for my files and downloaded the drivers (Realtek Audio, nvidia, Intel HD, Elanpad).

Do I have to buy Win7 again? Is there anything else that I need to consider?

Would really appreciate if you guys could help me out! Thanks! :)

    What about you guys?

Is somebody could record short record using built-in microphone and using windows sound recorder and upload here? Please note boost level and record level.

    Thanks,

PS. I am think about is it mine sample problem, or in general for model.

What browser are you using? If it's Firefox browser it has memory leak issues causing system to run slow and end up need to kill firefox process and restart.

If you want to do fresh install of Windows you don't need to buy Win7 again, you can download the full version of Windows 7 Home ISO here:

    http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/win/X17-24209.iso

And use the product key came with your N56VZ to activate Windows.

Could probably try installing Ad-aware first, to see if there's some known malware running on your pc. Viruses really aren't that common any more - usually it's normal programs that you install, but that happen to have some extra dll you don't want, or a service that behaves in an annoying way.

Sometimes these programs also are registered by large corporations. Such as Origin from EA, which actually behaves and really is a virus, that keeps draining system resources. But no virus checker will flag it as a bad program.

So install Ad-aware, and install process manager. At least then you have some control over what's happening on the laptop..

HI, I've had my N56VZ-DH71 for a couple of weeks now, but has anyone notice the corners of the lid bezel rubbing on the aluminum body? Also, getting a little line in the bezel where the rim around the track pad seems to be touching (just in behind the lights and icons).

    Hi guys,

I own one of these Asus n56vz bad boys and I am pretty happy user for over an year now. Yet again, lately I have come across a weird issue - after a few minutes of afk ( 3-4 ) in every program I run I get fps drops. At first I noticed it in videos. I play one and soon fps starts dropping until I move my mouse or press a button. I thought that it was a flash player issue, since flash player is causing all sorts of problems currently. But then I noticed the same effect on couple of games - I go afk for short amount of time and my game's background starts running low fps. That lead me to believe that there is some sort of power saving feature that I'm not aware of, which is slowing my system down after a certain time . I checked all of the power saving options and found none that would react on such a small amount of time and my power plan is High performance on every end possible.

Whatever this issue is, it seems not to be affecting movie players at all.

Has anyone encountered similar issue? It's not that big of a deal, but is annoying.
