I hear ASUS Live Update is not a good source for installing updates to the G73SW.

If this is the case, how can I disable it so that I don't have to close the pop-up window for it, everytime I start my computer? I could uninstall it, but is that reccomended?

Thanks for your time in advance.

Definitely uninstall, it's junk so why leave it running or on your HDD since you'll never use the thing.

So do y'all just lookup the ASUS website for the particular model and download updates off there? What do you do in lieu of Asus Live Update?

It appears that pretty much everywhere, forums are saying that ASUS Live Update is more trouble than it's worth. I also saw a site that said it was rather difficult to disable or remove the program. ANyone here know if this is true?

Yes just go to the site ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download for most updates, video drivers should be DL'ed from manufacturer ( ATI or NVidia) site, as well as sound drivers.
There is also a notebook section on the ASUS ftp site:
    ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/nb/

ALU is easy to remove, simply uninstall from the control panel and it's gone. You could also use CCleaner to do a registry cleaning to make certain everything is gone, but i don't think it will be necessary.
