    Hi all!

I had the same problems as the guy which started this post :
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=323783

It is about a screen at the startup which remains definitively black. It happened suddently, without any specific action done before, and even the VGA connector does not work anymore. Many many people got the same problems...

I was looking for a solution in the forums and it seems a lot of people have the same problems. For many of them they got the warranty repair, so fine for them. But the mine is more than 2 years old, so it did not apply.

I just wanted to give here a good news: finally I found a store (not an ASUS one) which repaired it quite well, for 100$. The problem was that, because of the high temperature of the back of the laptop, after a while, the graphical connector on the motherboard unsoldered. It seems the store repaired it with an automatical welder tool also comon to repair many game console and other laptops. Hope this information can be beneficial to any other customer which has also a warranty over. The store also tell me it is possible to glue it at your own, but the quality of the join will be lower (expect that in few more months, it will disjoin again...)

    Cheers,

Thank you for your replay. I read this post and I wanted to say I got my laptop fully repaired in less than a 2-weeks time, to compare to the weeks-to-months report given in your post. So my advise: NEVER give up when official support does!! In my case, it was critical as I did not want to reinstall all my softwares and data, this would have took me months...

I would also add I found this shop in Oviedo, Spain, in case somebody close to this place would be interested, but this has probably a very low probability ;)

I had a black screen 2 weeks after going off warranty. I called Asus and I was told "I'm sorry sir, your computer if off warranty", and that I would have to pay for any repairs in addition to shipping. I'm very disappointed in Asus considering the known issues with the 8600M GT.
