    what OS??

XP and VISTA 32 bit can only address about 3gigs of memory,,, you might get 4gigs to boot and work,,, just know up front that you will never be able to access all 4 gigs,,,, and some Acers have reported not booting w/ 2X 2gig

but work fine w/ 3 gigs

iv got vista premium 64bit installed. at least the os wont be a limiter in terms of using 4 gb's and ill need to check but im sure i'v seen a few other i965 based laptops come equiped with 4gb's standard however as u say this may be an acer problem only accepting 2x1gb dimms

So are you talking only 5315's or all acers ?

Pardon my ignorance, was thinking of using one 2 gig stick and one stock 512mb chip. Will it work that way in a 5315 ?

    Thanks, James

    that config should work fine,,,
but some models of acers fail to boot w/ 4 gigs of ram.. even though they claim to support it

I upgraded to a T5450 a few days ago. I was getting Idle temps under 20C now i cant get below 45C. I havent changed anything besides bios version. Any ideas on why this is? I flashed down to the 1.33 Bios because i was having the cold boot problem. Could this be related?

    EDIT

I just flashed back to 1.34 and RMClock is now reporting temps of 26.6C on startup - 3 mins ago before i flashed it was reporting 50C on startup and idle. Any take?

BIOS 1.34 has those 2 issues

    COLD BOOT ISSUES
    and
Thermal sensors are mis-read by the BIOS

the temps are the same... just being correctly reported now!!

good to see you are awake!

Yes I am awake - barely

So 1.33 reports temps correctly or does 1.34
