Based on my experience, I believe your upgrade configuration should work without problems. Use thermal compound otherwise the cooling system might not work as expected. While you are at it, clean any dust of the fan and the fins of the heat spreader.

I'd choose the T8300 as it has the better cost-benefit ratio in my opinion. Then I only have the T8100.

I'd say get the T8300. IMO T9300 should work but you might get heat troubles, T9xxx are known to run significantly hotter than T8xxx

Hey...Here's what I want to know. Can One bolt a motherboard OTHER than an ICL50 (with the Intel GM960/965 Chipset) onto the bottom of the palmrest of the 5315/5520...I mean an UPGRADE (for a possible chipset upgrade) not swap Intel for AMD....like put a NEW MODEL Motherboard into the 5315/5520 case? ICL 50 boards are over 10 years old. What can we put up there NOW?

    Hello.

I have been keeping an eye on this thread for years and years. Our Acer 5315 refuses to die. I upgraded it firstly to a T8100 + 3GB + SSD + 802.11N card.

Today I have upgraded it for the last time to the T9300. The CPU is working well on Windows 10. The clock multiplier is working correctly. Temperature is idling at around 45-50 degrees Celsius. Max temperature at full load seems to be around 67 degrees. I used some pretty cheap thermal paste so there is probably some wriggle room for improvement.

It is incredible the longevity of this machine. Its an 8 year old computer that was pretty ordinary when it was new. It has run Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and now Windows 10!

I will keep an eye on things and let you know about the stability in a few weeks.

    Scotty!

Just did an upgrade using a T9300 on my 5315-2698. It is running much cooler than the T7300 I had originally upgraded to. I did a repair for someone recently on a modern HP laptop and this 5315 was still faster than the cheap Celeron in it in everything but graphics.
