Hello i was reading this post and other related but i have a lot of doubts.
I have an Acer 5315. Intel Celeron 530, Chipset Mobile Intel GL960 Express, 1Gb DDR2 667MHz. Windows Vista Home Basic. Bios version is 1.19v.
    I’ll buy 1Gb Kingston DDR2 667 so as to have 2Gb.
Searching information I have found this forum and now I have some doubts:
    1) Differences between GL960 and GM965. I read more about 965 and I don’t know if GL960 can support same processors .
    2) Everest said that my RAM’s laptop is running to 533 MHz, if I upgrade to the latest version of Bios can run to 667 MHz or 800 MHz?
    3) I don’t understand the information of this forum about which processor can I buy to upgrade my laptop. My knowledge about this processors is 0.
    4) My socket put mPGA 478MN and is purple, I don’t understand if this one is N or P, I don’t know how can I identify a valid processor in Processor Compatibility Guide
    Thanks for all.

    1. The difference apply mainly to the IGP(integrated graphic card) and supported RAM limit, not the CPUs.
    2. 667Mhz RAM is what Santa Rosa chipset supports max(GL960/GM965/PM965)
    3. You can upgrade to any Merom/Penryn socket P FSB 800Mhz. You can't upgrade to the new Montevina CPUs.
    4. All 5315 should have socket P..as far as I know..

The CPU will work at FSB 800MHz(if the CPU is actually FSB 800Mhz) but the RAM will work at 667Mhz(if the RAM actually support it). Santa Rosa chipset has 800Mhz FSB limit and 667Mhz RAM limit.

You can upgrade to any socket P Merom with max FSB 800Mhz. Example T7300, T7500, T7700, T8100, T8300, T9300 etc..

Hi guys. Final upgrade was to update to a 7200 rpm hard drive to put the icing on the cake. I was surprised at how much more snap the 7200rpm hard drive gives vs. the 5400.

Final setup on the Acer 5315 is:

Intel Core 2 Duo t8300 at 2.4 ghz.
    3 gb ram
7200 rpm 250 gb. hard drive
Replaced french/english keyboard with regular english keyboard.
    Vista Basic.

This is a very sweet little machine now. Works flawlessly.
