Apple Faces U.S. House Republican Inquiry Following iPhone Throttling Fiasco-hothardware.com

Apple is now facing a potential inquiry from House Republicans who want answers from on its throttling policy. Four of the U.S. House Republicans, including the chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook on Friday.

The letter asks Cook to answer questions about throttling older iPhones with batteries that have lost performance. The letter also expressed concern over an iPhone battery that overheated and began to smoke recently in Switzerland. Apple is also facing inquiries from the U.S. Senate as well with Senator John Thune, chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, having sent a similar letter to Apple on Tuesday. At this point Apple has offered no official statement on either letter.

Apple is currently facing a number of class action lawsuits over throttling of devices with older batteries. Apple's competition is taking advantage of “ThrottleGate” fiasco and have announced they would never throttle older devices.

Wonder if they'll push something voluntary, a notification that says something like "we noticed your battery is dying, if you want it to last longer, use this feature". Probably what I'd do in the aftermath. Also everyone needs to stop using "-gate" and come up with something different. It jumped the shark a long time ago.

In all reality, they should allow users to roll back to the earliest firmware possible. They already lock you out of the appstore based on if your firmware is too old for certain apps, there is ZERO reason why you can't roll back to older firmwares. I downgraded/hacked my IOS9 4S back down to IOS6, and it is simply amazing, how much more usable the phone became. It feels as snappy as it did in 2011.

Battery gate: Apple promises transparency from the next iOS update
"In the future, Apple will let iPhone users decide if and when their smartphone will be throttled. According to Tim Cook, this feature will be on board in the next iOS release." What else could CrApple do? Be the only brand who force throttling on their smartphones?
