Hi I'm currently considering Aorus X7 dt v8 and there are few things that are worrying me. (Other Laptop I'm considering is AW 17 R5 with i7 8750H and GTX 1070 which is a lot cheaper so comparisons are also welcome)

    1) How is the hinge quality? I saw quite a few threads about failing hinges and this keeps me worried as there is no service center for Aorus in my Country.

    2) How are the thermals? I know it runs quite hot but is it unbearable?

    Thanks in Advance.

1.) Pretty sure its the same as for MSI, they sey the hinge qualityis terrible, but my GT 72 which I have since almost 4 years now still has no signs of wear and tear. As long yuou're not rough with the system hinges should not be a problem.

2.) Runs really cool thanks to good cooling design and 4 fans.

We have a Service Center for MSI here. Not for Aorus.

Iā€™m considering the X9 DT. They look amazing and I know a few people who have sold their msi gt83ā€™s and purchased these.

I said its the same for MSI's. As long you don't do anything like slamming or ripping open the lid hinges wont break on you.

There was a post on reddit or something that kinda scared me off the MSI.
It directly said to stay away from new GE/GS series, which is the one I'm considering. Due to the hinge.

Found few in this forum also.

Same case for the Aorus but I assumed less number of threads due to less number of owners.

CES 2019 is coming up soon. Why not see if they're gonna be something new just around the corner?

And I didn't think you could get an Aorus x7 Dt v8 anymore? They've been out of stock in the US since october.

    It is available in UK.

I will be buying in February or March. Let's see if they come up with something more interesting.

HInges tend ot be of good quality these days but it is the surrounding construction that can be a problem. For me a fist of rule is that hinges that are screwed directly onto a metal plate and in the metal screen hinge are far more durable than laptops who have hinges screwed onto plastic laptop frames. A hinge can be more stiff and or loose over time. But when they become more stiff and are mounted into a plastic frame, they tend to tear over time. So for each laptop I buy i try to find the disassembly photos and or videos to evaluate the construction.

I have the X7 V6 so I don't know if the hinge quality for the V8 has been improved but the hinge on mine failed just a month out of warranty this past Friday.
