Nothing too significant. Best way to help battery life is undervolting and choosing the most efficient screen option.

Tough call on a screen recommend because it depends on what you're wanting from the lappy. I'm fine without the UHD display, these things come with video cards that are well matched for the lesser screen in terms of pushing frames and it looks great when gaming and in casual viewing. Something not mentioned is that on my X7 I can run a native desktop despite my being old and pathetic and I like not having to deal with scaling issues. I'm not sure that I could do the same with an X5 but I suspect the younger version of myself could have. Perhaps I just like to think so...? :) I can say without question I do know people who would not be happy with it and I do have better screens in the house, the difference is something I notice when switching devices. One other thing that isn't often mentioned, the viewing angles are not all that great but not at all problematic if you are using it in DTR duty. For me the bottom line was to get as much gaming and media consumption as possible in a 17" format that wasn't heavy enough to be a problem in air travel and the 4k screen doesn't benefit me in my use. The decision was easy and having made it I've no regrets about it. I would suggest going down to BB, Costco and having a look at lappies with similar screens in the desired size if you're really on the fence. Maybe you see something that puts you over the edge one way or the other.

It has them already. I swapped mine out but it didn't improve much.

Edit: correction, it has some k5 pro or equivalent already. I swapped with pads.

I got 1mm and .5mm. In a couple places I had to stack them but I can't remember where, of hand. I did it back in Sept.

Just use your best judgement. All that matters is they make contact. There were two spots where I still used k5 since there gap was to big.
