    i've always wanted an IBM.
i think they look really cool
problem is the lenovo series are really expensive (spec for spec compared to a dell/hp...although i know, it's way better quality)
i want to get a widescreen, so i'm limited to the Z series.
i remember on fatwallet, they posted a few ways to get one really cheap.
is lenovo going to offer more widescreen models?
cause the Z series isn't their "best in line" and usually lacks stuff that the T series does

There is a strange myth that the Z-series is lacking. I can't comment on the Z60T, but the Z60M is in no way lacking. I think it stems from the IBM-to-Lenovo-switch myth, which holds that Lenovo's takeover has resulted in poor quality. While the new products are not perfect, the same can be said of any computer, and many of the complaints are purely aesthetic.

The key to getting a Lenovo machine at a semi-reasonable price, for most of us, is using the educational discount. In school? You officially qualify. Already graduate? You officially qualify. Drop out? To my knowledge, they don't check, so you unofficially qualify.

well, those who think the Z series is lacking are right (IMHO)
not available with good gfx card, not available with core duo....

i just went on the edu part of lenovo, and there were just 2 Z's offered
and they weren't customizable (unless you call customizable buying stuff that doesn't come inside the laptop!)
can i get any lenovo through the edu website?

Did you not see the z60t 1.86 750 processor, 7 cell extended battery, 1 gig of ram for $1250 direct from lenovo?

If you know anyone who works for IBM, you can get about 25% off the retail price. Just ordered my z60t yesterday! Employees are allowed up to 25 laptop purchases per year (for friends and family) and they don't need to do anything on your behalf to get the sale approved so I'm sure people are not going to mind giving your their discounts. I called and the guy never asked me how I'm related to my friend..blah blah...no hassle. They actually had a z60t that retails at 1700+ for 1099 a few days ago but I wanted the titanium top so I ended up buiding my own and saving just 25%. By the way, in case you didn't know...the z60t is wide screen. Good luck!

It's the Z60t that are limited to integrated video. The Z60m are available with X600, which is a good previous generation video card. As for availability with Core Duo, Z60 was released before Core Duo, so you couldn't put it in there, now could you? The Z61 with Core Duo should be available soon enough. But I agree that at this exact instant, the lack of Core Duo makes it less appealing than, say, the T60/X60, or models from other manufacturers.
