On my old laptops, I had to install Asus AI Charger but it doesn't appear to do anything on the new Alienware 18 laptops. I hate having to plug it into a wall somewhere.

I've been using my old laptop to charge it.

Any way to get it to charge on the new Alienware 18 laptop?

On most computers an iPAD will charge slowly even if the "charge" icon doesn't appear on screen. Just turn it off and plug it in. It is a slow charge though.

I have no clue what the voltage requirement is. I just know on my old laptops and even my desktop, I could charge my iPad. If it didn't charge out of the box, I installed Asus AI Charger and that got it working fine. I tried installing that on the new Alienware 18 laptop and no luck.

I tried charging it with the device off, but every time I powered it down, it would auto-turn-on by itself right after powering down.

    Any suggestions?

Look in the BIOS and see what charging mode your system is set to. Maybe changing that setting will make a difference somehow.

Is your new 18 Windows 8? Are the other systems Windows 7 or 8? Check in Device Manager with the iPad connected and see if an unknown device appears while connected and disappears when disconnected. If you see that, there could be a driver issue and you could try updating the drivers from the Windows Catalog for the unknown device using the automatic driver seach/update feature in Windows.

(am I allowed to link to an ebay item, if not tell me ill remove it, its not mine if that means anything)

Maybe your 18 is defending itself against infection by iPad cooties. ;) jk

Let us know if any of these suggestions have helped.

    Hi,

Checkout our support page; to your left you will find the Manuals tab. Click on it and add your service tag.
You will find the Quick Start Guide, which will provide the location for the only USB 3.0 with powershare.

Also, as well said by Mr. Fox, check the BIOS at the Advanced tab to check if the powershare is enabled.

    Hope it helps.

Ditch the iTrash and wait for the new Google Nexus 10 to come out. You'd benefit from things such as Google Chrome syncing, full control over your tablet and rooting possibilities as well. I'm assuming that since you have an AW 18, then you're into modding stuff and so on, so I can't for the life of me see why you have an iPad. I can understand people buying a MBP (or half-understand... maybe quarter-understand) - but an iPad?
