So let's say I'm out and about using my Hotspot connection with limited data. Is there a way to open Outlook but not have it automatically download all the attachments in the new emails it's syncing in order to not suck my data? Talking about Outlook 2016 here

What I'd like is to have the option to just know that there is an attachment and if needed, I can then download it but not have all the file attachments downloaded automatically eating up all my data

oh I forgot to mention, it's 4 POP3 [IMG] accounts and 1 exchange account. I did run into that article when I searched for this on Google but it didn't help

Thunderbird has an option for not downloading attachments:

    1. For POP accounts:
      1. Go to the Disk Space category for the desired account.
      2. Make sure Messages larger than ____ KB is checked under To save disk space, do not download:.
    1. Enter the maximum size for messages you want Mozilla Thunderbird to download automatically.
      • The default 50 KB will let it download most messages that have no or just very small attachments but avoid almost all other emails with files attached.
Maybe there is a similar setting in Outlook.

    This is somewhat related:

Is there any way to let Outlook bypass Metered Connection setting? I want to keep it turned on, so windows won't start dowloading patches over the not so fast wwan connection.
So far the only solution I've found is to turn off Metered Connection altogether.

Disable BITS and WU services to disable updates and keep outlook syncing your mails w/o any issues.

Not sure but sorry guys that I forgot to update you. The friend who was having this problem told me it was just doing this with one of his 5 email accounts so he just turned off that account temporarily when he is out and about to fix this.

But yeah KLF I wish I knew how to make Outlook not sync attachments when on metered connections. just for my own knowledge
