if I was buying a gaming desktop, as cool as the panels are on the alienware are, I would buy an Origin PC. I like/prefer Alienware Laptops and their design, but their desktops leave me wanting. Just my opinion.

You know Origin does NOTHING that you cannot do yourself....Alienware gets you a custom chassis with arguably cool LEDs (Albeit horribly overpriced)

485m is essentially an underclocked desktop 560 TI, but with different architecture. 560 SLI has shown to be more powerful than a single 580. 6970CF is very close (4-10% i believe) to 485m SLi. So yes, you will be stronger than a single 580, even 580oc, if you overclock the 6970CF.

The i7-920 will be beaten by the 2820qm, 2920xm/2920xm oc, and maybe even the 2720qm. Mobile sb is a beast.

If you truly need portability, then go for it. But be warned, for 5-6k on this laptop, you could get gtx 590 watercooled SLI, i7 990x (or 2600k, or wait for Sandy bridge update (new 6core/8core) or ivy bridge), 3 amazing 3d monitors, nvidia 3d, ssds (maybe even raid), etc. etc. With those deep pockets, only go m18x if you need portability. Even then, sager is cheaper and comes with a desktop processor already.
