I don't see no body talking about the M18X order, here is the question how much you willing to spend on this machine ?
what specs are you thinking on getting ?
are dual GTX 460m worth the money vs HD6970 if there is no 120hz screen ?

    /me wants a single GTX485 and 2630qm with 8GB ram, then add a Vertex 2 SSD

enough for gaming, web browsing and 1080p movies.

Not a bad idea but where you plan to get the 485m from ?
and you not going to be thinking about upgrading to dual card once you have the machine?

What's better for dual GPU, NVIDIA or AMD? Looking for best performance for anything I throw at it.

    Dual 6970M/Dual GTX485m>Dual GTX460>GTX485m>6970m>GTX460

Since Alienware does not offer GTX485m, best performance would be Dual 6970m

CF is faster than Sli by 5%
GTX485m is 2-3% faster than 6970m but cost much more and produce more heat and since there is no 3D display i don't see the point of Dual GTX485m (Dual GTX485 cost 600-700$ more than Dual 6970m)

Thanks, great information there. I'm glad to have the M17X R2 with CF 5870's after reading your reply! Now have to wait for the M18X!

Why don't you just get a m17xR3 w/ 460M and add in the single GTX 485

Anything other than dual 6970s would be a downgrade compared to your old x7200 with 470s that I believe you hit 30k vantage with serious overclocking.

But with a 330 watt psu do you really think you can have a lot of room to overclock with the 2920xm at 55 watts + 2x 100 watt 6970s? It is possible to run an i7 desktop with 6970m xfire with only 300 watts but once you want to overclock the extra psu is necessary. This might be a key factor that enables Alienware to out perform Clevo with single psu overclocking.

At this point I'm planning to order a 2920XM with 6970x Xfire when available. This is subject to change as we collect more data about the M18X. I'll be upgrading RAM/SSD myself.

I'm going to get the dual 6970's, 2920XM, 16gb RAM, but if by chance Dell offers the 485, 485s it is!
