Can someone please let me how Alienware warranty transfer works? I got a good deal for few months old Alienware m17 with rtx 2080 which still has 10+ months warranty left on it. The seller doesn't want to provide owner information and selling as-is. When I contacted Alienware customer service, I am getting conflicting information if I require previous owner information or not.
1.One rep says, the warranty goes with the system and not the owner.
    2. Second rep says, I need ownership transferred for any online or hardware warranty work.
    3. Third says, I don't need ownership transfer for online technical help/troubleshooting but need ownership transfer for any hardware work since it will be shipped to a new address.

I am totally confused on if its possible to get warranty honored or not?

AFAIR It's safest for the seller to transfer warranty for you. It's not super clearly explained:

    https://www.dell.com/support/articl...-and-dell-product-registration-guides?lang=en

Was the System purchased second hand, through an auction website or third party company?
    • In order to take advantage of any remaining warranty (if applicable) for a Dell EMC System purchased through an auction site or through a third party, you will need to complete the transfer of ownership form by providing either or both of the following pieces of information:
      • Previous Owner Information
      • Service Tag and Express Code
Note: As part of the Dell EMC's Privacy Policy, Dell EMC cannot disclose any account information to a third party. For this reason, Dell EMC representatives will not be able to complete an ownership transfer form on behalf of another party. See Dell's Privacy Policy for details

So it's either or, but one would think they would check with the original owner if someone is attempting to change system ownership based on the service tag only> I guess the risk here is that the seller is attempting to push a stolen machine on you. If they refuse to register, they are probably not the original owner?

Yeah, he is the original owner. He did showed me invoice with his personal info grayed out. I checked with Alienware too and its clear.
I'm only missing the owner info to transfer the warranty. He just doesn't want to give out his info.
But paying that huge amount without assurance of warranty is kind of making me nervous and with Alienware's various response above, its making me nervous.

Has anyone else got success or issue getting support without ownership transfer or transferred warranty without owner information?

Selling my old Alienware right now and was told by Dell today anyone in possession of the system will get assistance with the warranty, no problem.

I’m the second owner, never “transferred the system” with Dell, and have had warranty work done no problem.

Dell also let me extend the warranty no problems. You should be fine.

From my experience you have to transfer the warranty from whomever the previous owner is to you. Requires their information...

Offer to buy an extended warranty and you will get treated like gold. Dell warranty is fantastic unless you are trying to scam them or are a total whiny baby about every little thing.
