Think really carefully about needing the 8950HK. In this form factor, you might need to keep the laptop in the freezer like Dave2D did with the Macbook Pro. Pretty sure they don't make freezers that fit in backpacks.

How do you think an unlocked i9-8950Hk will run vs the locked down i7-8750H with liquid metal in the same thin m15 chassis? You can't trick the physics laws.

Be prepered to get you some gaming gloves from whatever webstore you have access to. Or buy a nice external keyboard. Unlocked i9-8950Hk won't run cooler.
    .

Edit. Still no 240Hz panels but with i9-8950Hk https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/del...re-m15/spd/alienware-m15-laptop/wnorn5chm158h

If you go to the config choices page, then select the one to the far right that has the processor shaded, then choose the RTX 2080 in its config options, the i9-8950hk will come available as a choice. 144hz FHD is still the best available screen for now.

i9 is available on the Dell configuration site.

240Hz was scheduled for 2nd half of the year (Maybe by June , July?) Not sure if it's coming out sooner. April would probably be the earliest is my guess since the panel itself has been released I believe.

But wouldn't a 8950HK have a better bin and thus run cooler?

The unlocked chips run at higher clock speed. Will you clock down to reduce voltage or match the lower power consumption for locked down i7-8750H ? (Less Cpu Package Power = Lower heat).

Regarding Dell and how they behave today. Start see from 7.55min.

So I guess I'll just get the Area 51M with the Silicon lottery CPU, what do you think. Would you do that or get the M15 with the 8750H?

I don't touch BGA. Area-51m is a much better choice. My best advice for you is already posted in post #13 if you want Dell. Re-read it.
