Here are some pictures from the repaste specific to the 17R3 in case anybody needed an accurate reference. This was actually my first repaste ever but after some research I'm confident that is the correct amount to apply. I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut.

Stock paste, 3 years of use. My thermals took a dump in the last 2 weeks and was reaching high 90s, even locking up a couple of times. You'll notice there's no paste remaining on either the CPU or heatsink.

Here it is cleaned up. The little strips left over around the CPU actually have very small transistors in them and I didn't want to risk damaging them.

As per the directions and research, I used a very small bead of paste, then used the plastic applicator it came with to spread it around. A little bead (1/2 of a pea for the CPU) goes a LONG way.

Running Aida64 stressing CPU, memory, and GPU at 100% my temps are maxing at 82 and no thermal throttling. I'll take it.
