So my 17r3 has a issue where the battery always shows 93% available(plugged in). In the bios it shows the battery is performing normally, what ever that means. So im wondering if the battery has degraded over time and needs to be replaced? If so is there a good brand i should look for online. I have seen a few on amazon but i dont know what one to get so thought i might ask here.

    Try ebay or laptopbatteryexpress.com
In Amazon although they look genuine they might be labelled with fake stickers and firmware that might work for a day or two and fail.

I believe this is to stop battery degradation when plugged in so it is not on full all time when playing etc.

I got msi and it always stops at 97% when plugged in. I believe there is an option in bios to switch that off

hmm i dont know about that as my newer alienware 17R4 say's 100% plugged in. Also in Hwinfo it shows the battery wear percentage at 30% on the R3. So im not real sure. Its not affecting me at this time as i rarely have it unplugged from power, but its something i want to keep a eye on and prevent future problems. I contacted dell which was a joke in itself as they told me i should buy a new laptop cause it would cost me to much to replace a battery! Lets see 50-100$ for a battery VS 2500-3000$ for a new alienware. Yea thats not going to happen lol. Then they gave me 15 reasons why i should get a new system. I get they have a job to do but a simple sorry we cant help would have been better.

That is not an issue. It's to protect the battery from constant charging will lead to a degradation in its lifespan quickly. Not sure about the m17 but on my Area-51m R2 I change the batter mode from Adaptive (default) to Custom with a limit of Start charging at 50% and stop charging ta 90%

There is no limiter in echo models. Dell utility auto-detects and applies 50/80% charge limiter. some batteries get permanently stuck at the same %age or some got destroyed. (Mine was stuck at 50% and never recovery and after few days I got Please Replace battery)

well the battery finally went out, it was stuck at 45% and when you unplug the machine it would last maybe 15 minutes. I got one off amazon for 65$ and so far everything is back to normal. Its charging to 100% and lasts almost 4 hours on the battery. So im happy.

If you look at the battery stats please look at the design capacity vs fully charged. My $35 ebay unit only holds 72wh vs the 92wh design capacity.

I zeroed it and fully charged it, but, still shows 72wh

I would like to know whick model had provided 92wh, since nearly everything on ebay is the crappy 72wh with faulty cells.
