Unfortunately the motherboard was fried and I haven't replaced it yet. Hopefully I'll get her running again but for now she's just a shell.

Damn it, now I want to do this to mine.

How difficult would it be to do matte versus gloss?

Gloss white wasn't too hard but the gloss red was a little worse as any bits that aren't 100% show up more. I did matte black on the 13 R2 and it was definitely the hardest. It has to really be perfect as all the flaws shine through. It took lots of sanding and recoating to get right. You can get matte clear coat though which really helps. The gloss seems to provide a stronger/harder finish as well.

    Just go for it!

    How scratch resistent is it?

When I had done this for a desktop the paint really didn't stick well. Though I suppose back then I didn't sand down the previous paint job now that I think about it. This was maybe 10 years ago and I admittedly not as knowledgeable lol.

I like the black internal, maybe thinking a dark gray.

The gloss white seems like it will be very scratch resistant. I never tried scratching the matte black but it didn't feel like it would be nearly as good. Maybe a few extra coats of clear coat would fix that though. You can sand the old paint down a little but you have to use a primer before the color. I've noticed that the end result is much better.
I would say that the matte black is more of a dark grey (see below). I will try it again and I think I can get it perfect next time. I think I only used one clear coat which wasn't enough.
