    I've watched and read a number of iUnlock's reviews/complaints regarding the Alienware 17 R4.

I've heard screen issues and thermal limitations are the top complaints among many of the users/reviewers.

However, it sounds like Dell has addressed almost all of the complaints that these people have had (given that the initial complaints were close to 6 months ago, they've apparently had time to fix the issues).

Can anyone confirm this? Has Dell improved this computer enough to warrant spending close to $3,000?

I appreciate all of your input (especially you iUnlock).

    Regards...

Perfect! Thank you for that tip. I was trying to message him directly but I couldn't find a way to do that or post on his profile.

    Thanks again!

Returned mine a few days ago, not worth the price until they fix the heat issues. They should really step up their game and supply a proper paste / heatsink. I had the most recent version of the r4, i7-7820HK / GTX 1080. Wont be buying another until they get their **** together(few years or longer I assume if at all). Customer service has been good was super easy to send it back. Now I just wait for the refund.

Dont waste your money, the price of the laptop shouldnt require 3rd party help.

Ok? It's not like you can go somewhere else for something better. A fully corrected Alienware is a beast of a machine with unmatched build.

What would you recommend? A worse built MSI?

A Clevo that also has stock issues?

    An Asus?

Aorus is the only brand that's somewhat close.

I can help you. Message me on Discord.
    :)
I'll wait for you to ping me.
Nothing is perfect, but most of the units that I'm coming across is much improved when kept stock. Do you have screen shots of your Temps? Please post them. Thanks.
Which laptop does not need help or extra work to get it running like it should?

Please tell me so I can buy one. :)

(I've driven them all and most of the main ones are in my garage.)

I agree. As OCD as I am if there was something else that was more well rounded, I'd be driving it. :)

No brand loyalty as I'd also be the first to call out any short comings and let it be known .

There are perks to the AW that can not be matched as it is several classes above the competition.

I'm am too curious about that magic perfect laptop that has yet to be suggested, because I want to buy one lol...

You're absolutely correct in that every gaming laptop has its fair share of issues.

The difference is that some issues are fixable and some are NOT fixable like build quality, material choice etc...

This is where the AW shines while being equipped with Pascal and Kaby that also tops its class with numbers to prove it.

My AW holds 47x, while the msi and Asus can not.

The gpu is unlocked and is a strong performer as it is on the Asus and msi.

As for everything else... The AW has much more boxes checked that allows it to bring home the win at the end of the day when everything is considered, IMO.

I will write (edit in this price) in my review but here's would be close to a perfect laptop.

    ---

+ AW build quality, design, cooling system, keyboard, track pad, material choice, tolerance levels, QHD panel, and fit & finish.

+ Msi gpu... Best I've seen...stronger than Clevo cards. (proven) I personally would take the steelseries keyboard since I like chiclet style keys. Otherwise the AW has the best traditional switch keyboard IMO.

+ Asus's heat sink's tolerance level. Just incredible.

    + Clevo's lga cpu socket.

+ @Prema magic on an unlocked bios.

    ---

    That would be the day...

However, weigh all the variables on the scale and at the end of the day the AW tips the scale in its favor when all things are considered.

I'll post some screen shots when I get back to the office as I'm typing this from my phone. :)

I'm going to need help with mine too, but I'm in Florida and iunlock isn't I think? I really want to make it work because the only other laptop with the same specs is the Aorus, but everyone with the QHD screen was complaining about horizontal lines.
