    Hello,
My Alienware 17 R3 with 6820HK processor and 980M(8GB) graphics card suddenly showed a random reboot problem. I don't play any games on the laptop, I just use it for my work. Its been just over a year since I purchased it. Within 20 minutes or so of starting the computer, it suddenly reboots or sometimes shuts down. It doesn't even get that hot, even with an external fan it randomly shuts down. I tried doing the Dell Diagnostics and there also it reboots at either the processor or the memory step. I can't even run Dell support assist because the computer shuts down just within a couple of minutes of booting.

I ordered the computer from the US but I live in Nepal and Dell Support center isn't available in my country. So, I took it to a local repair shop and he told me that everything else is working fine but there is a problem with the chip that can be seen right after opening the backside screws. He said that he could "revolve the chip" to fix it but there is only a 70% chance of success. He said that if it were some regular laptop, he could fix it 100% but in case of a high end laptop like this, its not easy to get the parts here and the success rate is 70%. So, I am not sure what to do. I paid over $2000 for this laptop and don't want to let go of it, I was hoping it would last me at least 3-4 years.

Have any other forum members experienced similar issues? If so, how did you solve it? I just wanted to get some feedback before asking the repair guy to go for the fix he suggested. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
