I don't think window 8 is worth it unless you have touchscreen?

I'd have to disagree if you are up for a slight change in habits... Win8 boots RIDICULOUSLY faster, I was shocked... it has literally changed how I use my laptop, it's great. Plus, general usage and response appears improved. So far no issues or compatibility issues. I love it, and I was really happy with 7 before but I'd never go back.

EDIT, sorry, this was suppose to quote the previous post saying there was no point to 8 without touch*

Not sure what happened your way, maybe hardware? I have yet to have a single wifi issue with 8 knock on wood!....

I do have a problem I don't know how to fix with the screen not coming back after the laptop sleeps or is idle for a while and the screens shuts off, but that my only problem. Wifi has been rock solid and I've been downloading all of my Steam and Origin games after my install (500+GB) without a single drop or issue.... I am using the stock Windows 8 drivers for all network/wifi devices

well googling for my particular problem "windows 8 wifi drops" i have found many people with similar problems and some fixes saying about some service which may be active but i don't have that service ... i will test this weekend another adapter to see if the wifi drops then definitelly it is something in the Windows 8 or the router , if not then i have some problem with the drivers maybe

i didn't had any hardware issues till now so that is out of the options

btw which driver version are u using

Thanks for making this thread, it's helped me work out a few issues with my Windows 8 install.

I have a new problem I would like to add. Whenever I press FN+F8...the computer crashes! I guess you can't really call it a BSOD anymore, it's more like the SSOD...smiley screen of death? Anyways, anyone know how to fix this? It's right between the touchpad toggle key which I use pretty frequently when I switch to my bluetooth mouse and the screen off key which I also use frequently. I'm worried about hitting it by accident and crashing the computer.

    HELLO FELLOW ASUS-IANS :hi2:

I just discovered the solution! The trick is, use your Win7 64 bit drivers but make sure u DO NOT INSTALL under "Program Files" directory. No! install it under a new directory, e.g., "Apps". Then it will install correctly and function normal. I have an ASUS G73SW-A1. I struggled for a while until i remembered that "Program Files" is treated differently and more securely by Windows, so I decided to make a new directory; "Apps" and it worked. You can name the directory whatever you want, mine is C:\Apps\

Be sure to right click on each item first and make sure you use compatibility mode and set it to Windows 7 and Admin...then install it.

It really does work; after all, why would Win 8 have compatibility mode for whatever you are attempting to install and do not currently have Win 8 drivers for?

Also, be sure and download CCleaner...and configure it to clean all *.tmp under C:\ as well as all ~*.* under C:\. Then be sure to also configure it to delete everything under C:\Windows\Temp and also the Temp and Temporary Internet Files folders under each User account.

    Good luck...hope I have helped!

whether I attempt to install from driver disc or from download (Asus Support), the auto-installer doesn't give an option to change install path. I tried Win7 regit hack to change default directory and it totally ignored my key!

Please inform how you forced install into "C:\Apps\

I downloaded drivers for each item individually from ASUS' website. After I had set the compatibility and double clicked the executable, it showed me the default directory where it was installing the files and also gave me the option to change the directory. So, I chose "Apps" instead of default "Program Files".

    I hope this helps.

I downloaded and installed Audio_Realtek_269_Win7_32_Win7_64_z6016162 from Asus' web, following exactly your suggestion and yet there was never an option to direct the install, it was auto-exe. I could only choose "Next" or "Cancel", and after choosing Next I could only helplessly watch as it shoved everything into default directory. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM?

edit: found I was able to direct install of all the other drivers, just not Audio driver. Hopefully this will give me a crash free Win8 machine!

I have the same system and the same issue and fixed it by doing the following:

    - Used CCleaner to uninstall as windows uninstall left several things
    - Removed all registries of ATKpackage (To counter first install and start clean)
    - Downloaded latest ATKpackage
    - Right clicked setup file and clicked "Troubleshot compatibility"
    - Selected Troubleshoot Program(2nd option)
    - Selected "the program worked in earlier version & Program requires additional perm.
    - Selected Win7
    - clicked next
    - installed the program
    - closed compatibility troubleshooter
    - clicked yes to restart computer

    Everything worked.

Other Problem was fixed with the above as well:
Due to the ATK Package not working at first the following was happening
-NO WIFI due to FN-F2 key being turned on and off non stop and win8 disabling it out right.

Hope this helps people who stumble onto this or had this same issue.
