    Hi All

My laptop has recently been struggling with basic browsing with Chrome, i can only have one window open with Facebook for example yet i am getting the occasional crash - Snap-Out Of Memory!

Plus the fan is throttling up all the time and getting lag........

I have 12Gb of RAM which i presumed was more than adequate?

I currently only have 2 tabs open, FB and this and my results are as below.

Do i need to replace the 4Gb stick with an 8gb? Or is there another solution??

    Thanks PC.JPG

What crashes ...the laptop? The browser?

More ram is never a bad idea. However, though Chrome will use more ram than one might expect, due to preloading links and caching others (esp from Facebook), you should not be running out of ram with 12 GB available. Crashing and high CPU use would also not be expected. For the crashing and ram use, I would check Chrome to see what extensions are loaded (you may have a few "freeloaders"). Thee is also a program called Chrome Cleanup that can help. You could also try Firefox to demonstrate if the problem is Chrome. For the CPU/fan issue, open task manager when it happens and see where the resources are going. Again, browsing should not push your CPU - I suspect something else is running.
    Keep us posted.

One solution you could try and I personally do this whether I have 32GB or even 128GB as I don't want Chrome to scan any files. I have my Antivirus for that.

see: How to block the Chrome Software Reporter Tool (software_reporter_tool.exe)

With such low amount of RAM, really, any tweak you do would be beneficial.

Also, go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Background apps (from the left pane) and turn off all background apps EXCEPT the ones which are related to the laptop (ie. nVIDIA Control Panel, Intel Graphics Command Center, Realtek Audio Console, and the likes)

You said this started recently. You mean this wasn't a problem before with same usage? Fans going up all the time... Have you followed Cpu/ssd/PCH/Gpu temps while this happens? With Hwinfo you can follow this in real time. Go into settings (configure sensors button at bottom and put it to Always on top).

    Cheers.

I have tried to monitor what is using RAM, i have removed Chrome extensions, i only had adblocker and yet i still have high ram usage as in pic?

High CPU happens randomly tbh, high ram is constant.

I have not monitored temps etc but i will try later.

Also i still a standard HDD.

    Cheers
