    Hello NBR!

I’ve finally decided to buy a new gaming laptop and replace my old G73SW (yep, that old), however I’m not exactly sure what to get. I’ve been lurking the forums for the past 5 months reading as much as I can, but I’m no closer to a decision. I’m currently outside of the States, but will be returning in late August for two months, then going overseas again for at least a year; so I want to buy this before I leave again. Finances are not the best at this time, so I really can’t afford something like a P870KM1, but I at least want something with a 1070 and good build/thermal quality. I’ve looked at P650HP/670HP, P775DM3-G, MSI Titan, GT62VR and the GL62

    General Questions

    1) What is your budget?

    $2,000 - $2,300 or less

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?

    Mainstream; 15" - 16" screen

    Desktop Replacement; 17"+ screen

    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.

    USA

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?

    a. Like: No preference; however, I’m not touching Lenovo or HP not even with a 10’ pole

    b. Dislike: Lenovo, HP

    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?

    No

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?

Gaming, streaming, browsing, light office work

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?

It will stay mostly on a desk, but I have to move constantly due to work

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?

AAA games, Skyrim, ESO, Souls Series, Witcher 3, Starcraft and occasional FPS like Halo

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?

It’s going to be plugged most of the time so 2hrs is fine

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.

Win10 Pro since 7 is no longer supported

    Screen Specifics

    12) From the choices below, what screen resolution(s) would you prefer? Keep in mind screen size in conjunction with resolution will play a large role in overall viewing comfort level. Everyone is different. Some like really small text, while others like their text big and easy to read. (Scroll down to see screen resolution information.)

Full HD; I don’t see the point of having higher than this on a laptop screen. I prefer IPS screen over TN, but it’s not a deal breaker

    13) Do you want a glossy/reflective screen or a matte/non-glossy screen? (Scroll down to see explanations.)

    Matte is fine

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?

I would prefer something that doesn’t scream “GAMER”, but I’ll take if there’s nothing else

    15) When are you buying this laptop?

    August - September

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?

2-3 years. I’m planning on getting a full desktop replacement in 3 years when I can finally splurge :D

    Notebook Components

    17) How much hard drive space do you need? Do you want a SSD drive?

Never owned an SSD; might get one down the road but not at this time, except for a small one for the OS

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?

    No

Any recomendations from the list below? I'm leaning more to the P650/670 because the P775 doesnt have an upgrade path with the upcoming coffee lake and the cooling not being as good as the P870.

    P650HP/670HP
    P775DM3-G
    MSI Titan
    MSI GT62VR
    AW 15 R3 through HIDEvolution

I'm going with HIDEvolution when I buy the laptop, however the P775dm3 is above my budget. I could get it under that, but I would have to compromise. The P750dm2 is a little more manageable, but it still goes above what I can afford. How is the cooling on the P750 compared to others? With Coffee Lake CPUs requiring new motherboards/sockets, would that not make the P750 non upgradeable? Here is how I configured the P750dm2; the P775 was similarly configured.

Hidevolution is a really good option because delidding is a must for using a intel K cpu inside a laptop and prema bion is a useful tool IMO

    p750dm2 is a little beast :D

this model also uses a desktop cpu and a mxm upgradable gpu
    upload_2017-7-31_15-31-16.jpeg

some user of this forum uses a gtx1080 with that clevo

here the official thread about this model. there are a lot of useful infos

there aren't clear infos about coffee lake yet but they should use a LGA1151 socket. but V1 or V2?

The official thread is geared more to the P775, so its hard to get any information for the P750 even with the search function. I'm interested in how it handles temps compared to the P775 or the P650/670. Hopefully they release more info on coffee lake soon. Regardless, I will be replacing this new laptop in about 3 years with a p870 or its replacement; wouldn't it be better to go with a P650/670 or a gt62 for now since they stay under my budget?
