Recently for no apparent reason my LCD Screen on my Notebook started to go all funky on me, every so often I would see a mess of greenish wavy static on my screen and suddenly pop back to picture perfect functionality. This problem would occur's while in Windows itself and at bootup, restoring itself to perfect functionality, after awhile start to develop green lines along window edges, the green was most visible on areas of the screen that were black in color and fonts also appeared distorted or had a broken looking pixilation.

Opening and closing applications that I had running would also rid the screen of these issues, only to reappear again at some point.

Its not a driver issue and it does happen at random on bootup.

I've sent my system into Acer, they are going to see what may be wrong, I was previously told by a rep I may need to pay almost 800$ for a new screen if in fact it needs replacing, but I find this greatly unfair as I have caused no external damage to my system through abuse or misuse whatsoever, the notebook to me is in excellent condition and when Acer see's it I'm sure they would agree. I was last told by Acer it seems that something is physically wrong with the connection and that if the screen itself was broken it would be constantly noticeable and not randomly fix itself.

Has anyone else had this type of problem with their LCD and what did Acer do about it for you?

Doesn't sound like an LCD problem. The greeny lines suggests that a bit of the video memory or the GPU is faulty. If it was a panel fault it wouldn't go away by opening or closing programs. Hope this helps

I Had the EXACT same problem in January with my aspire 5630 ! I 've had it for less than 6 months !!!! The Screen was replaced by acer (fortunately it was still covered by the warranty)... Their seem to be a problem with the Screen hardware ...
And Guess what ? Yesterday... My Screen became pitch black ! No more display  I'm sending my laptop back to Acer for a second time in 8 months !

If your warranty has expired, I think you would be better off buying an other computer (replacing a screen could cost 800$ and up).
Next time : avoid getting an Acer computer !

It did turn out to be an LCD issue, and was replaced by Acer at no cost, other than the shipping to their facility (I don't have accidental coverage)

Well this is hard to believe, but I now have the exact same issue again, but with the replaced LCD, I now have asked them to please check the MB and onboard Video along with LCD.

WTF, system is sent and I'll update what happens.

You're telling me, I'm running out of cash sending the thing back to ACER :S
Do I have any options if they once again screw up? I'm still under standard warranty for a few years.

if it's not right this time..

demand to speak to a supervisor

and then demand a NEW replacement....
and then as for the supervisors, boss...
and keep trying to climb the ladder to someone who can authorize replacing your laptop w/ a NEW one

    just my rant

I probably should of done that this time around, this is the third time I've sent it back and twice now for the same issue. If something else goes wrong I'll be taking names and ID's (usually do) and asking for supervisors.

I'll be getting a Dell next time around. :p

This time around they replaced the connection between the motherboard and the LCD, last time they replaced the LCD, you would think they would of seen the connector as the problem in the first instance before replacing an LCD screen.

I hope my problem is resolved this time, my fear is something else will die again. I mean 3 hardware failures? :p 3 strikes and Acer is out.

I received my system back from the repair facility, for some reason they said they had to reinstall my OS, but the OS was stable as hell when I shipped it, so they reinstalled that but also replaced the wireset for my LCD.

Want to know the kicker? I received my system back just fine, opened it up, turned it on and the entire LCD display was wonky, jittery distorted displaying what looked to be 256color and well... basically not viewable.

I am at a loss for words on this, I've contacted Acer Repair and talked to a Teir 2 Tech and they will take my system back, shipping on my end free of charge and it will be looked at by a 'Senior Tech' to determine where to go from here, system looks to be undamaged but who knows it could of been damaged in transit back to myself.

Edit) Haven't received my Acer system back yet of course but I thought I'd mention I just bought a Dell XPS M1530, top specs... and to everyone else, NEVER BUY ACER.

    Man, WTF Acer.
