So, today I put my Acer 3820TG on "Hibernation" - then when I turned it back on, display did not turn on, so I restarted the computer. Nothing.

So, I tested it with external monitor and the laptop itself works; however, the laptop's display "cannot be displayed", it just shows black screen, for some awkward reason.

Any ideas what happened and what I could do?
    Thanks!

Edit: It blinks for a while (but is still dark) when i change GPU.

    Please help me! :I

So it works fine with an external monitor but not with LCD screen, right?
If that's the case it's either LCD itself or LCD cable/ribbon that has worn out.

Hibernation is really funky on the 3820TG. I never let my unit go into hibernation. I will let it sleep.

The timing of the display failure could be coincidence along with the hibernation, but I would rule out any connection before I considered troubleshooting the display. Take the battery out and unplug it for 5 minutes and see if that helps.

Whenever I use Fn + F4 (Zz button) the laptop sometimes fails to wake up. The screen goes blank and the HDD light stays ON. I have to shut it off and power the machine back on.

Pretty annoying....I guess it works 50% of the time.

Can't help on the display issue.

But regarding hibernation - I've never had a problem with mine hibernating.

In fact, I rarely, if ever shut down any more and only hibernate. If there aren't any updates to restart for, then my uptime is usually a dozen or so days.

The only issues I've had are if you're hibernating whilst it's in "power saving" mode (i.e. not charging off mains) and then turn it back on whilst it's plugged in.
I think that's more an AMD driver issue though.

Resurrecting the thread. It appears that when I change the GPU (using the external monitor), the laptop's screen blinks and becomes completely black, and then becomes again veryvery dim.

So, does this mean that the backlight/inverter is broken? Would I need to buy a whole new LCD-screen, or would just buying new backlight/inverter work, or would I need to buy all of them?

I have had a similar problem, but what helped in my case, was just to shut the lid and open it again, the screen would turn back on.
It seems the problem is that the compute,r in the waking process, doesn't recognise if the lid was open or closed - there for doesn't turn on the screen properly.

Sounds like a similar problem I have had. I just turn it off and turn it back on again... =\
