    I try to do that today with mSata SSD 128 GB from Crucial, on EliteBook 8570W , it recognize SSD all Ok it also work , BUT BIG problem it is unpossible to made at BIOS that mSATA is first boot device , at bios boot there are NO mSATA , so it is unposible to say to bios that they must start from mSATA disk. Even there in machine is only mSATA with sytem they will not start because they do not want to see that disk like disk which can be boot disk ! But in Bios you can see mSATA disk and use it without problem but not for boot disk or system disk. Dhis problem was with bios from 15.8.2012. So i hope HP will repair bios , because you can boot machine from HDD, ESATA, DVD, USB all only from mSATA you can not !!! Sorry for my bad english.

    I called HP technical support about failure to boot from MSATA. According to the literature accesed by the specialist, boot from MSATA should be possible. The following steps should be performed before MSATA devices can be selected for boot:

    1. During Boot, go into the BIOS F10 option;
    2. Select system configuration;
    3. Select Built-in device options;
    4. scroll to MSATA;
    5. Check MSATA.

    According to the technical materials available to the technician, this Should allow enablement of MSATA to boot. The tech asked me to let HP know ASAP if the steps outlined above do not enable successful boot from MSATA... As I do not have 8570W/8770W yet, I leave it to you Mat and others to try things out, and posts results here. I will follow up with HP if needed.

    Hey guys, do the elitebooks utilize Optimus tech yet?

    No, because Intel still doesn't support 10-bit displays.

    I received my first 8770w a few weeks back, it was shutting down on its own so I sent it back for another one, that one came in with the right rear corner of the aluminum deck pulled up so that too went back. I also noticed on all 8770w's I ordered that the space bar was squeaky which is troublesome considering the cost of these machines. The last one I received has so far been excellent except for the squeaky space bar and the occasional IE crash which is another thing these machines do, unless they are formatted fresh. We used the HP build which is my fault, I should have formatted and started fresh.

    Aside from the things noted I like its performance, I'm not a fan of the non-dream color display, the contrast could be better but for work it's fine. Boot up from post is about 12 seconds into Windows including logging into the domain which happens at post with a finger print scan. I have the display set to come out of sleep when I open the lid, it's near instant which is very nice.

    One of the employees is using two of the 128gig M4's in RAID 0 on his 8770w, I'm using the M4 and the 500gig HD that came with it, I built another one with dual 240gig Intel 520's, he didn't want me to use RAID 0 on them and frankly, they scream by themselves so he is very happy.

    I'll post more after we have some miles on them. My plans are for rebuilding the machine in Jan using Intel 520's in RAID 0 and a 1TB drive in the Blu-Ray slot, we'll see.

    Anyone knows how to disable the ambient light sensor on the 8770w, it's freaking me out!
    FN + F11 didn't do the trick...
