I thought I got a deal on ebay (found the listing 1 minute before it ended) turns out the seller listed the item in the wrong catagory. So now I have an 80g, 7200 desktop drive. I am going to put it in my kids computer.

Jeep... May I ask what you ended up paying for the 80GB drive?

$40.00 shipped, I didn't know the 2.5" 7200 drives were going for $200+ otherwise I would not have bid.

Rick, I don't get it. Jeep won a 7200rpm desktop drive and by that I'm thinking 3.5" not 2.5", unless I mis-read it somewhere. If so, where's the score?

    It wasn't a bad price for a 3.5'"

    I think Rick misread it as a 2.5" drive. :D :p

Yeah. Any of these drives on eBay are gonna be used or refurbished...

I've been told that one should treat buying hard drives like buying condoms...

Would you buy a used condom?
Would you buy one that someone had fail on them so they had it patched up by the factory?

    New all the way now.

I'm not sure what you guys consider a 'decent' price to pay for a 7200rpm 2.5" ATA-100 HDD, but what do you think of SEAGATE Momentus 7200.1 -80GB- (7200rpm/8MB/ST980825A)? At SGD169, it work out to approx USD125, which means I can pick up 2 units of 2.5" 5400rpm 160GB Hitachi Travelstar (SGD78.00 each). Better bang for the buck, IMHO. (see 2.5" ATA-IDE HDD price guide)

BTW, a 3.5" 7200rpm 160GB Hitachi desktop IDE HDD goes for 66 SG bucks or USD49! (refer to 3.5" HDD price guide)

If any of you ever transit or stayover in Singapore, you MUST visit Sim Lim Square. It's a 6-level IT mall that's probably a wet dream come true.
