I just got one... Used... For $202 shipped. :(

How's the performance increase of a 5400 over the stock 4200?
How's the performance difference between 7200 and 5400?

Am I paying a lot for very little gain?

I've gotta make the same upgrade to my Apple and I don't think I'll be finding any more 7K100's.

The 7200rm drive is a little faster than the 5400. You don't notice it as much in the CF-30 as you do in the CF-28 & 29. You see a HUGE difference in the CF-28 between the 4200rpm drive and the 7200rpm drive. It is like night and day!

I put in a 200GB, 7200 RPM SATA HD into the 30.... It' a little faster than the 5400 I took out. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the 80GB I took out... Probably put it up on ebay.

makes a good door stop, or target practice for 22's :D... their not worth much these days... we (my old company) were selling used hitachis on ebay 80GB 5400RPM SATA & IDE'S for about $30-$40 shipped.

    That's the stuff. ATA-6

I'll settle for double the space at the same price for 5400 RPM.

My 100 GB 7K100 was DOA.

Yes... That 80GB drive will work... But they are never in stock! I have a standing order to be notified when they arrive. I have never received an email! I did get an email about 4 months ago.... I bought 5 of the hard drives and 10 minutes later they were sold out! They haven't gotten any more in since then AFAIK....

The line of drives is discontinued. I don't think they'll EVER come back in stock.
