Technically it was only in quote status. I was trying to score a free upgrade to the 6990s...but the rep wouldn't give it to me (not even the 20% graphics upgrade going on right now)

It's pretty interesting that the GTX 580Ms were $650 cheaper than the 6990Ms for me in Canada today. It's weird that the same company has such huge differences in price (opposite price difference in fact) across one border

Not true at all. Nvidia has always had an Nvidia tax + the fact their GPUs are costly to make, and look at the 485M vs. the 6970M. More or less neck and neck, despite the 6970M being significantly cheaper.

They tried to overcharge with the 580M again, but the 6990M is even faster, closing any gap the 6970M and 485M had.

Name brand stuff is always more expensive than value brand stuff. And is rarely, if ever superior.

The only reason I got the Nvidias is because of what I think was a pricing mistake putting the GTX 580Ms $650 cheaper than the 6990Ms.

Here's a proverb that either someone told me, I read somewhere, or I made up:

There was a First Nations man sitting on the side of a dusty road with a stand that sold hand may earthenware dishes.
A woman stopped at the stand and after shopping for a few minutes, went to the stand owner and said, "I notice you have a pot in the five dollar section that is identical to the pot in the fifty dollar section, is that a mistake?"
The wizened old Native looked at her and said, "Some people want to buy a five dollar pot, some people want to buy a fifty dollar pot."

I don't know why I keep telling ppl that story. It's pretty dumb.

If I could get the 580M's for $150 in SLI, I would do that. I go what is the best price point and performance, not nVidia/AMD or top of the line.

GreatBigPhil, love that little proverb ....

I think it hits it on the head, Lostmem quotes "you get what you pay for" ... but really ?

Tell you what, I will resell you my m18x for 3x the price I paid for it, then I will reorder the same one. Did you really get what you paid for ?

    LOL.

Some people really do just want a $50 pot.
