    Alright guys, a small update.

I installed the 4980hq into a t440p laptop I just purchased. It boots and runs Pop_OS just fine no issue in the slightest.

Runs perfectly, so the issue comes down to the Ranger for its use.

    Going to keep the T440P?

Of course, I am going to get familiar with Linux and C++ using it, its why I got it. I meant to install the 4700mq that I had sitting in the closet but figured I would give the 4980hq another shot and presto, 10 minutes later the t440p is running no issues.

So with the 4980hq I am able to play Stellaris and CoH2 pretty well on the 720p panel. I have the 1080p LG IPS panel ordered so I will test again when it gets here.

This is mostly going to be a typewriter / l2code / KDE orientation machine but since I am using the 4980hq vs the 4700mq a little gaming seems to be on the table for some of the lighter stuff.

So it seems that the CPU isnt wired for mDP output via its platform.

Would this prevent the Ranger from booting? It would surprise me to need a headless mDP adapter to pass post for a CPU lol

Ok that's good to know - I'll try and take another look at this soon. Maybe we need more than just microcode and there's some modules that are going to need injecting / replacing. Hopefully the known working sBios of the t440p will have the answer.

Its worth noting that none of these processors output mDP thus far. I dont think it should matter for the Ranger as most of us use dGPU for our I/O but just wanted to make sure its out there...

    Hi @TheReciever

Had a bit of free time on my hands recently, so been looking at this again. No real progress to report but below is a comparison of the t440p bios and the version for the aw17 I tried making for you.

What strikes me as odd is that GOP, VBIOS modules etc in the AW17 are all newer than those in the T440p and oddly the T440p doesnt have microcode in it for cpuid 40661, so really not sure how that can boot the 4980hq at all! Unless maybe the took some of the microcode out in the latest bios (attached detail is for v2.54).

Can you recall which bios version youve had the processor working with in the t440p?

Is the Ranger using an AMI bios?

Btw link is not working. Anyone got a current link?

All I'm finding is the desktop socket versions .
