Yup 2080Ti is bigger as has been the case for a long time (100 vs 104 and 102 vs 104 dies)

    2080ti is using TU102 die and is 754 mm^2

    2080 is using TU104 die and is 545 mm^2

The 2080 to 2060 do share the same package size.

Without signed+modded firmware its not feasible to transplant the GPU die and I think nobody will sign NDA to keep it a secret just like good old days!
I might be wrong on Signed FW thingy!!! :)
Anyway, if Khenglish accomplishes it then Clevo might go for custom Ti editions in laptop with proper FW.

Except being physically impossible is an issue plus you would be limited to a 256bit memory bus.

Plus killing 2080 cores is also going to get expensive quickly.

This has been something he has done with dead GPUs, not working ones. The 980M to 980 core mod that he did used one of my dead 980M cards (had a cracked die). It wouldn't be smart to ruin a perfectly good 2080 MXM card even if the die size and pin count were the same.

That covers fitment but you would need to do live testing at some point.
