Hi all, I have owned my new MBP for about 2.5 months now. I opened the laptop yesterday and noticed that there is a crack, like a crushed in area about 1.5cm wide, at the bottom of the screen by the 'MacBook Pro' logo.
When googling, it seems this is not an entirely uncommon occurrence with MBP's. I've never closed the lid with anything inside it, and it has never been dropped.
I did not purchase any extra warranty/apple care coverage with the laptop.
Do I have any recourse with Apple? From what I see online I likely live with it, or pay several hundred dollars for a screen repair.... :(

Worth a shot to take it into Apple and have them look at it. My experience with them in the past is that they are more incline to help than turn you away especially for something like this.

It's a common problem. You are SOL, apple will not take responsability for this massive design flaw. As usual.

Thanks. I'm guessing most folks who have tried to demand a replacement have had no luck. I've made an appointment for tomorrow at the genius bar... Any tips on how I go about demanding a refund/replacement? Again, pretty sure they'll just say 'sorry, nope'...

best I can think of is go in with your MacBook, bring up the Apple page and demand a refund on the overpriced junk they sold you.

Zaz - lol, I was just logging on to post about that - some good news, I think my credit card insurance will at very least cover the cost of repair. Heading o the apple bar in an hour to see what they say, and if they insist that it has to be a paid for repair, I'll get an official quote and send it off to my credit card insurer.

Well, what do ya know......no arguement, no fuss, they looked at it and immediately said they'd just treat it as a hairline crack and replace the screen for free! Was not expecting that.

Awesome. After reading all the complaints on their community site, I figured you were going to have to keep the cracked one. That being said, I forgot they replaced my sons iphone 6s after he sat on it at a party. They looked up the serial number and rep said we had apple care on it for some reason. They sent the box to get it fix, while in transit they called me back and claimed they made a mistake, and it was not covered. I was like great, here we go.....but in the next breath, they said since it was their mistake, they would be fixing it free of charge anyways. I have to keep remembering that. Maybe it will swing me towards buying something else from them.
