    Hello,

    TLDR version

How reliable is this model. I understand it has flex in chassis, screen, and back of screen if pressed when closed! Or is the 2019 built better? I need it for work and want it for play, as I’ll be on the field from time to time. I will be one of the few (it seems) that will just use it straight out the box. No tinkering; OC, UV, etc., no nothing! Just what MSI supplied is what I’m gonna use.

    Detailed Version

I pre-ordered the Razer Blade RTX 2060 from Best Buy, they’ve been processing my order since the 29th. I started my new job February 1st and have been using a loaner laptop.

Without going into too much detail it’s a BYOD company which requires a field laptop. They do have some assistance in place but I don’t want any of those.

If I am gonna own a laptop I’d like it to be one that will benefit me and a gaming laptop would since I’m a gamer, but I usually game on my desktop (i7, 1080ti, 32 GB RAM, etc). Best Buy stated that the laptop will arrive Feb 25th after calling them and being like “WTH” so now I’m scrambling for an alternative. Needless to say I canceled.l the order. When not on the field I’ll be using my desktop as my work computer since I run multiple VMs for various IT jobs I do for different environments.

I want a 2060 laptop since I already have a gaming desktop and the laptop doesn’t have to be my primary gaming machine, but the thought of gaming from the field, to bedroom, to the toilet, sounds ultra appealing. Even when on a flight.

Long story short, this lead me to the MSI GS65 which can be delivered this week (Week of Feb 4th). I don’t plan on upgrading it or tinkering with clocks/voltages, just a straight out the box experience. So the upside down MoBo doesn’t bother me. I just need it to last so I don’t have any down time! I plan on getting an extended warranty as well.

From what I understand now is that it’s much more stable than Razer by reputation but it seems like most of the gripe isn’t the product but Razers service. And in my experience sometimes the noise on forums and reddit doesn’t necessarily equal reality. So I thought the more rigid design is worth the testing on my own and bypassing Razer buy going retail.

So I wonder about the longevity of such a flexible chassis and lid poking at the back of the screen. Especially the flex of the back panel of the screen when closed. It’ll be traveling in a back pack’s laptop section with small pokey things like crimpers, network testers, cables, etc.

    Anyway thanks for your thoughts.

I used a 2018 GS65 1070 MQ over 90,000 airline travel miles last year with no issues. I used an AmazonBasics 15" sleeve and a Tumi hardshell nylon laptop case. It was packed next to my 13" MBP.

The way you've outlined you would carry it would potentially damage any laptop. Get a backpack with a sleeve for a laptop so it is at least separate and not just bouncing around with your other things - or get a briefcase-style case like the Tumi that I have. Unfortunatley, it's from 2010 and after searching Google for about 10 minutes I can't find it...but perhaps someone else makes something like it (it's TSA-friendly - just for the laptop only).

I don't think it will be an issue, and you can always take measures to prevent damage from pressure of other objects over your machine. With normal care, there should be no issue.

Trust me, it will downclock heavily to 2,8ghz-3,2ghz if you don´t tweak it. And even after tweaking it, if it doesn´t have LM or something, whatever. This thing gets really hot.

Its the CPU. It runs hot, and has high default voltage. Regardless of system if its not undervolted and properly pasted, it will throttle under sustained and heavy loads. Turbo will not reach as high due to the temps.
