    Hey all,

I'm heading back to uni in September. Before that I'm selling off all my old hardware to buy a new laptop that can be expanded with an external GPU via Thunderbolt 3, monitor etc., and carried around campus with me otherwise.

I've had a yoga before and enjoyed the convertible-ness so I've been looking at the 720 and the HP Spectre x360 as well...

    1)Up to 2000euro

    2) What size notebook would you prefer?
    c. Thin and Light; 13" - 14" screen

    3) Where will you buying this notebook? You can select the flag of your country as an indicator.
    R. of Ireland

    4) Are there any brands that you prefer or any you really don't like?
    a. Like: Lenovo, Dell, HP
    b. Dislike: Sony
    5) Would you consider laptops that are refurbished/redistributed?
    Yes

    6) What are the primary tasks will you be performing with this notebook?
University work, office function and light graphic design. Possibility of expansion to external monitor and GPU essential

    7) Will you be taking the notebook with you to different places, leaving it on your desk or both?
    Both

    8) Will you be playing games on your notebook? If so, please state which games or types of games?
Yes, low intensity when not connected to external GPU

    9) How many hours of battery life do you need?
    Secondary

    10) Would you prefer to see the notebooks you're considering before purchasing it or buying a notebook on-line without seeing it is OK?
    Online is ok

    11) What OS do you prefer? Windows (Windows 7 / 8), Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, etc.
    Windows10

    Screen Specifics

    12) WXGA / +

    13) Secondary

    Build Quality and Design

    14) Are the notebook's looks and stylishness important to you?
    Ish

    15) When are you buying this laptop?
    ASAP

    16) How long do you want this laptop to last?
    4yrs

    Notebook Components

    17) How much hard drive space do you need? Do you want a SSD drive?
    Over 512Mb, yes

    18) Do you need an optical drive? If yes, a DVD Burner, Blu-ray Reader or Blu-Ray Burner?
    No

Slight aside, am I correct in thinking that a type C USB 3.1 thunderbolt3-compatible port does not necessarily have a 40Gbps transfer? And if not, what specifically designates a 40Gbps port?

    Best regards and thanks,

    Zeal

With your specs and budget these would be your best options : search result .
You can see and change the search parameters using the "Refine results" button. You can also click on the laptops for more information. (EU/US) stands for Europe/USA only model.

I strongly recommend one of the Thinkpads in my list.

Looks like they updated the model. Apparently only the 7820HQ version has Thunderbolt.
