So I'm really not sure what I want to do here. I have decided that I will be going desktop only now but I need to upgrade. Right now I have a 780 Ti SC ACX @ 1150MHz and it plays most games fine at 1080p but it's definitely getting a bit long in the tooth. I don't currently have a monitor, just a 1080p 60hz TV that I game on.

So here is what I'm wondering... Should I get a 1070 and a 50-55 inch 4K TV or should I get a 1080 and continue to use my TV while I save for a 4K TV, or should I just wait and see what happens with Vega and if it forces Nvidia's hand (lower prices, drop of a 1080 Ti, etc)?

I'm also still not sure if I want to keep gaming on the TV or actually get a monitor. The high end 4K monitors are pretty pricy while getting a 4K TV would benefit more than just my computer.

I would say 980ti on the cheap and then jump to the 1080ti.

The problem is that the 980 Ti still isn't that cheap and the 1070 handily beats it and has newer technology. Resell value will be higher on the 1070 should I choose to jump to the 1080 Ti or Vega later as well.

Yeah the resale value might be an issue, but it will pretty much sell for what you get the 980ti for right now (assuming around $300-$350).
And from some of the game benchmarks that i have seen its pretty much neck and neck with the 980ti, only surpassing by a few frames in certain games.

Keep an eye on this : http://www.evga.com/products/Produc...=GeForce+900+Series+Family&chipset=GTX+980+Ti

Last week they had a 980ti hybrid for $350.

A 980 Ti Hybrid is exactly what I would want too.

that's what I would do. Go for the highest 1080 you can get for now and do the monitor/TV later

Ugh! I'm getting so impatient! I've got 1500 dollars worth of credit I can use and while being responsible is all well and good, I've been waiting a long time to upgrade my desktop...

1080 might fetch you the best resale value later on, since they arent all that easily available.

Yeah but when the 1080 Ti or Vega come, everyone with them will flood the market anyway lol. I guess I should just be patient. It's only a few more months. My Ti runs everything right now. I was just planning on upgrading to a 4K TV.

Yeah, thats why im not jumping the gun as well I already made the mistake with my 980 SLI on my desktop. And my friend who waited for the 980ti is a happy camper still.

Im waiting for my friend to get the 1080 Strix and then to test it with my system in the Razer Core. That will decide where i want to go.
