Default Lenovo X1 with 16GB ram?

Has anyone managed to fit a single (I believe it only takes one) 16GB RAM module into their X1 successfully?

Also, have any leaks indicated whether any of the new X series (Ivy Bridge) will officially support 16GB.

Love the X but need the ram for virtual machines

I don't think 16GB DIMMs are supported by most laptops, including the X1. Besides, a 16GB DIMM would be exorbitantly expensive.

The X220 16GB of RAM in 2 RAM slots, so that is one alternative you could consider.

I wonder if the X2 is even going to be sold. It seems much of the X1 is in the T430U.

I hope we find out something concrete next week.

The new X1 is called the X1 Hybrid (X1H). It is identical to the X1, just with an additional Snapdragon Processor and SSD which can be used together with a special OS, designed for basic Tasks like surfing and listening to music. This way it lasts up to ten hours with its small battery.
It will still use Sandy Bridge.

If you want 16GB of RAM, you will need to get an X220 with SB.

The X1 Hybrid was announced a while back though (January), so I don't think it would preclude an Ivy Bridge-equipped version. We'll see soon enough, though.

The T430u was announced on the same day, however it included Ivy-Bridge options. The X1H didn't.

    What is your point?

The question about 16GB of RAM has been answered. Are we now debating if there will be an X2? I think there will be and it won't be called T430U.

I am just trying to say that there will be an X1H, no X2.

Are we placing bets on that?

Considering Lenovo's change in name Scheme (no more X221 or T412, 413 etc. for instance, which I think is STUPID) it seems very unlikely, they would call one of their Models X2. They will probably go by year. (X1(H) 2013 and so on)

But I guess we shouldn't discuss this here, as you have already suggested.
