Default clean install XP/Vista on TX17GP

i got the oldest model of the TX series which was released in Australia. it runs on a ULV 753 cpu with GMA900.

there is too much software on the laptop that i never use, and i want to do a fresh install by myself. i would also like to try vista on it if possible. however, if i screw up something, can i use the system restore disks (that i have created using the recovery program that came with the laptop) after doing a clean install? I am worried that the disks will only work if the laptop has an existing sony branded windows XP installed and not a clean installation.

also for those of you who have done it, were you able to have full fuction of those media keys and the eject button?

i think i will try a clean XP install first, then try a vista install. i doubt gma900 can handle aero, but well..never know unless i try

AFter reinstall, I couldn't find ways to recover the FN function button.

I found some information about this long time ago about recover this. They said that you need some files from recover Cd to perform the steps.

As I reinstall my Cousin's FE- I can't find any way to recover Fn button. Only Volume button works and some Numlock ... buttons work.

If you ask how to recover FN button in this forums. No one might be able to answer because SONY hide some secret behind those. That's why I hardly choose sony as my notebook. You can try the customer support and see if they have any resolve for it. I haven't try it yet.
