2012 Sony Vaio S 13P - upgrade the HDD to SSD at home?
Hi all,
I'm looking at buying this laptop, but would rather buy an SSD separately (it's much cheaper) and then swap out the original HDD when the laptop arrives.
Is this pretty simple or even possible? I'm not too keen on voiding my warranty, but if it doesn't, I'm pretty capable and could likely do the swap myself, even if it's tricky.
Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have a photo of the underside of their laptop showing the access panel? Any info would be appreciated. The exact model is: SVS13A190S. It has the i7 cpu, 2gb memory for the GPU, and I'm getting the sheet battery.
Thanks in advance,
Oliver

It's really simple.
Regarding the warranty, it depends on your country. However, if you need to send your vaio in, you can easily just swap your ssd for the original hdd.
There is a small panel on the backside that gives acces to hdd, ram and the battery. there are only 2 screws.
After that, you can take out your battery and unscrew the hdd (4 screws) and put in your ssd. one screw is below the sata cable, so you
have to be careful, but it's no big problem.
if you want, i can make some pictures tomorrow.Sony vaio s13p | i7-3520M | 12 GB DDR3L | GT 640M LE 2GB | Samsung 830 SSD 256 GB

Re: 2012 Sony Vaio S 13P - upgrade the HDD to SSD at home?
Thanks for this. I doubt I'll need pics, from the sounds of it. I was a computer tech for 5 years so I can handle the worst, including my old Vostro 1220 where I had to pretty much disassemble the entire laptop. This sounds simple and quick.
Very appreciated.
