Sony Forum's Own Windows 8 Thread
Now that the W8 consumer beta is out and fall release is likely I feel like I have to take this OS seriously even thought I really don't want to have to learn a radically different U/I since I have strong command of W7 and find it to be quite a good and remarkably stable OS - most of the tme. But things grow and move on and I guess we have to as well.

But we Vaio people aren't just Windows users, we're, uh, Vaio people Windows users
and our gear is different and we look at computers differently - or so I've come to believe, thus our own W8 forum seems appropriate.
For starters, for any of you who have been working with the developers' preview version for a while - this means you, Computer Cowboy! - can you possibly list your major likes and dislikes of both the OS and it's U/I? I'm especially interested in knowing what benefits it has over W7 on a non-touchscreen computer and any new features, added capacities and greater user controls it has and which would benefit Arrandale/Nehalem cpu machines, vs. which might only really help SB architectures and beyond. And to what extent if any will it impede performance of pre-SB and 4-8GB RAM rigs.
And your thoughts about this pointed question: who should seriously consider adopting W8 now, or at least at general release, on their current rigs and who should seriously consider sticking with W7 at least for their current hardware?
Sorry I'm asking for the world - and taking half a page to formulate the request! - but a bunch of you have come to expect that from me, sigh
.

Re: Sony Forum's Own Windows 8 Thread
bump. Is it me, or the topic?

Seriously, doesn't anyone have any interest or knowledge to share?
If not, I guess I'll just stick with 7; there are millions of people still using XP!

Well I installed it, but then got rid of it, since I really can't get used to the Metro interface. I think the biggest thing its missing for people without a touchscreen is decent trackpad gestures. I think it would be amazing if Microsoft implemented some cool gestures (maybe even similar to the ones on Lion), as it would make navigation less of a pain.Sony Vaio Z21: Intel i5-2520M@2.5ghz | 4GB | 2x128GB SSD | Intel HD/AMD 6650M | Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Re: Sony Forum's Own Windows 8 Thread
I'd be more tempted to try Windows 8 out if the hard disk (in the Z1) was more easily swappable.
I previously tried the Windows 8 Developer preview on my Thinkpad X61 Tablet PC, but it seemed like Windows 7 with Metro on top. I just couldn't figure out how you were supposed to use it.Want to help? Re: Sony Forum's Own Windows 8 Thread
I have seen several videos of windows 8 on a touch screen laptop and I am sort of excited to see how sony will utilise it on their vaio's. There are quite a few photos of the ultrabook concept (you know which ones I am talking about - the silver unit with the black sony hinge behind the glass display and looks similar to the z2 but silver) that was released from CES '12. Hopefully this will have a touch screen to enable full use of the touch capabilities of windows 8.

Re: Sony Forum's Own Windows 8 Thread
Is it this? If so, interesting, though I will have to buy myself a 32GB USB stick.
